Trump made us do it...

Okay, not literally.

But when we saw the news that the US planned to withdraw from the World Health Organization, it got us talking.

The numbers involved were enormous. The US had historically been one of the WHO’s biggest funders, supporting work tackling some of the world’s biggest health challenges.

At the time, we were a six-month-old cider company in the South of England. Even after checking down the back of the sofa, we weren’t going to be filling any international funding gaps.

But it did get us thinking about a much more relevant question:

What could a small business like Red Fin actually do?

So we did some sums, made some calls and decided to start somewhere.

Red Fin helped protect 50 acres of threatened habitat

We made a pledge to fund the protection of 50 acres of threatened habitat through the World Land Trust, supporting conservation in some of the world’s most biologically important places.

Rather than simply making a one-off donation, we wanted that commitment to be connected to the growth of Red Fin.

So, for a period, every pint of Red Fin Cider enjoyed contributed towards that commitment.

The more Red Fin we poured, the more we were able to contribute.

We knew 50 acres wasn't going to solve climate change. We were also wary of making grand claims about sustainability when we were a small drinks business with an environmental impact of our own.

But we believed it was better to do something tangible and measurable than wait until we were big enough to pretend we could change the world.

It was one of the commitments we made in the early days of Red Fin, and something we're proud to have supported.

And yes, in a very roundabout way...
